Yad Mordechai
A Gateway to the Revival of Gaza Envelope

תרגום לעברית

The events that occurred in Yad Mordechai and in our surrounding communities near Gaza on Saturday, October 7, 2023, are significant and traumatic events that will likely stay with us for the rest of our lives.  Fortunately, with the assistance of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces), aided by members of the kibbutz, they fought and eliminated dozens of terrorists who reached the borders of the kibbutz. Thanks to the bravery of our soldiers and kibbutz members, a major disaster in Yad Mordechai was prevented.

As time passes since the beginning of the “Iron Swords” war, we lift our heads and look forward to the day after. Although we are staying now at the city of Hadera under the guidance of the state and the army, returning to Yad Mordechai is not a matter of doubt for us. It is a clear statement that we desire to return home, rebuild the community from physical damages that occurred and are still happening during the conflict, and continue the momentum of activity and growth of the community and the kibbutz.

For us, the development of the Western Negev is a Zionism of the 2023 model, and we aspire to play a significant role and be leaders in the region’s revival. This belief and vision are what give us the strength and hope for the future.

Our Vision

The community of Yad Mordechai internal strength motivated by the continuation of the Zionist strives. The funds we aim to raise will assist us in further developing and expanding the kibbutz and the region in several key aspects:

  • Growth and Development – Development of kibbutz institutions, their upgrade, and the establishment of new residential neighborhoods to absorb new members into Yad Mordechai.
  • Gateway to the Gaza Envelope – Initiating initiatives: business and community initiatives with value to the environment and people, including collaborations with other entities to strengthen the development of the Gaza Envelope region.
  • Development of the Yad Mordechai Museum to commemorate the story of the Black Sabbath and illustrate the establishment of the Gaza Envelope region.
  • Creation and leadership of collaborative efforts for mutual assistance and support among Gaza Envelope communities and between these communities and other sectors, promoting projects for social involvement.

To advance this vision and to lead the kibbutz and the entire region forward, we need budgets and resources.  Any donation will be greatly appreciated! All contributions will go directly to the kibbutz’s account.  We call for your support at this time, for your vital contribution during this hour of shared destiny.

Detail of Needs and Revival Objectives of Yad Mordechai:

  1. Immediate needs of our community during the evacuation period of the kibbutz (currently residing at a hotel in Giv’at Olga): activities for relieving psychological trauma, welfare and education needs, as well as specific logistical needs during this time.
  2. Immediate security and tactical needs for the kibbutz’s first-response squad.
  3.  Acquisition of critical security equipment for emergency and rescue periods – general for the settlement and in addition for each safe-room in the kibbutz.
  4. Immediate needs for the physical restoration of the kibbutz, which was damaged during the fighting and is currently managed by the IDF forces, the first-response squad and kibbutz members who remained to operate crucial activities (Yad Mordechai’s apiary, honey factory, dairy farming, agriculture, maintenance of the community operations room etc.).
  5. Restoration of Yad Mordechai’s museum, ‘From Holocaust to Revival’, which was damaged by a Hamas missile that hit the building, causing extensive destruction and significant damage to its rare exhibitions.
  6. Implementing projects of social engagement initiated by the kibbutz over a year ago, as part of the kibbutz’s and the Gaza Envelope revitalization activities:
*Home for Life – a residence for adolescent girls on the autistic spectrum from the Gaza Envelope and the South.
*Home for Adopted Soldiers (with no family residing in Israel) to be cared for by Yad Mordechai’s community members.
*The ‘New Dawn’ Music School project – for children with limited abilities and at-risk youth.
*Establishment of an innovation compound and a joint thinking center for the residents of the Gaza Envelope and the South.

    *Establishment of a regional clinic.
*Adding a defense shield to the kibbutz’s existing community club.
*Establishment of a new wing in the kibbutz’s museum dedicated to the vision and the process of the Gaza Envelope settlements after the events of 7/10/2023.
